repeating history

when we should've been the ones preventing it

my sunday mornings
know its peace
a quick tap
or swipe
is enough to
reveal its
atrocities

endless famines
unexplained violence
unjustified shootings
twisted explanations
purposeful avoidance
sheds light on
humanity

in one blink i’m
sixteen again
with my history textbook
gawking at the
unimaginable atrocities
millions of deaths
under the guise of
furthering the nation

who’s opinion did you consult
to even dare create policies
that incite fear
and draw divides
across mankind

regardless of race
language or
religion
we are
one people
can’t you see?
or maybe you just
refuse to see

taking advantage of
squirming humans
to instill that divide
you weaponise
as long as it’s not me i’ll be okay
but violence like this
knows no borders

now isn’t the time to
worry about what
shouldn’t be done
man up and
swing your sword
where it hurts the most
kill the evil at its root
and take fucking action

appeasement and leniency
were tried, tested
and failed tactics
so why are we
repeating our mistakes
in this twisted replay
of the greatest conflicts
the world had to witness

while i can’t
behead the pig
there’s magic
remaining on our
very fingertips
you have the power
to make the change
today.

author’s mumbles: whatever’s happening in the world today genuinely reminds me of the content i had to memorise for my history tests — its disturbing to see violence happening to people who do not sin for wanting a better life for themselves and their families. history was meant to serve as a reminder of the poison power holds when it’s in the hands of the wrong people. you too can make a difference by donating a small amount — even a dollar would be significant — to UNICEF or relevant organisations supporting anti-ICE campaigns.
