my alarm rings
it’s 7:15am
another long day
but i jump out of bed

i brush my teeth
wear my uniform
tie my hair up
a big gulp of water
i’m right on time
it’s 7:42am

my eyes find you
angel on earth
your smile warm
as the summer sun
with a heart of gold
and all mine

a plastic bag in
one hand,
squash equipment
in another—
my eating habits
are now yours

you got me my usual
soy milk and my
chocolate pancake
a cold soy milk
for you

my right hand
meets your left
as we wait for
our usual train—
time flies
when i’m
with you

we bid goodbye
until after six—
i circle math questions
to ask you later
and you’ll whip out
your english workbook
we complete each other
just like that

training ends
two teens with
flushed faces
find one another
again—

i wore your
squash jersey
my racket and shoe bag
in your hands
we fall into step
and head home
together

as soon as dinner ends
i rush to call you—
its barely been
an hour but
i missed you
more than words
can describe

we talk for hours
clearing our
homework
as we go
our study dates
are what i
look forward to

as our exams get closer
we’ll talk about
our dream careers
and university plans
i’ll say i’ll miss you
when you shave
your head and enlist
in march

and when we graduate
i’ll clap the loudest
just for you—
my hero
my love
my boy

we’ll get each other
a bouquet of flowers
cards full of love
and our dreams ahead
